The history of Taskys Metric Cycle goes like this:
At an early age I was
on two wheels, in the form of a Sears mini bike (Thunderbolt 125) thanks to a mutual Christmas gift from my father and grandfather.
( My mom will never forgive them!) I still will never forget the moment they opened the garage doors in that skinny Pittsburgh
back alley to reveal my surprise! I have never stopped riding. I progressed through
the ranks of bikes, Hodaka’s, DT’s, YZ’s, XR’s, KX’s, the occasional street bike that I road
off-road, and many others.
I have lived in many places and
have ridden many different conditions: Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Colorado, Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, and now Washington State.
My first new motorcycle was a
1991 Kawasaki KDX 200, I currently am on a GASGAS EC 300, and having a blast! ( Update: I have now had an 04 Husky WR 250
and a 05 Husky TC 250 4-STROKE, and an 06 TE 450,and an 06 TC 510! , 07 Christini 270X AWD, 07 Christini XCW
250 AWD, 07 TXC 450, 08 GasGas EC300, 07 TM 530F, 08 Husky SM610, 09 Husaberg FE450 Husaberg FE570 , 2010 Husaberg FE
390 and more to come!)
The experience of going into a bike shop and bench racing with all the guys,
looking at the newest gadgets for your bike, and the latest in protective gear has always been the highlight of my week. I
used to drive my father and grandfather crazy about going to the shop.
I raced a bit of motocross in
the late 70’s and early 80’s but mostly wrenched for my buddies. I have worked at several bike shops over the
years and auto dealers. Ended up becoming an A.S.E. certified master tech. and wrenched for years.
Well on to TASKYS METRIC
CYCLE……
My favorite motorcycle shop over the years, without a doubt has been Stan and
Rosemary’s Metric Cycle in Mount Vernon Wa. a small mom and pop accessory
store with everything you needed. What an experience to go to a shop with such knowledge and passion for the sport! Stan has
since retired and closed up shop in 2000, what memories!
I have yet to visit such a place
again. That’s when the light bulb came on, That’s when I knew what I had to do.
So, with Stan’s OK and a
crazy look in his eye, we sat down to discuss my plans.
Four month’s later( 8/03 ) I am proud to present to you:
Taskys Metric Cycle
A special thanks to Steve Bentley and Mike St. May
for moral support, and more riding memories than
a guy could ask for. ( If only we had some of those moments on film... )
You guys rock!
